In a bid to strengthen pan-India presence, Mumbai-based food and grocery retail player Wadhawan Food Retail Ltd (WFRL) plans to set up 1,300 new stores across the country over the next four years. The company plans to achieve the feet with an investment of Rs 15 billion.

Currently, the company runs 200 stores in four different formats —Spinach, Sabka Bazaar, The Home Store and Smart Retail—and a non-store direct-to-home delivery business format Sangam Direct in different parts of the country.

Announcing the plan, Ashok Basin, managing director, WFRL, said, “We are looking to have a total of 1,500 stores by 2012-13 and our expansion plan would cater to our four different formats.”

“We are looking at increasing our footfalls by 15 times to take the number to 15 lakh (1.5 million), up from the current average of one lakh (100 thousands) footfalls across all our stores,” added Basin.
