No discounts on this Diwali, get ready to pay more for CTV

NEW DELHI: If you are hoping for some rebate and lower prices for new colour television this Diwali, then you could be in for disappointment as leading manufacturers such as LG, Samsung and Haier have hiked prices and have ruled out any freebies during t his festival season. “Sales during this festive season would not be driven by discounts and would rather be driven by new launches coupled with innovative product ranges,” said Samsung India Deputy Managing Director and Consumer Electronic Appliances Manufacturer Association President (CEAMA) Mr R Zutshi.

He said Samsung has already hiked prices of its colour televisions by 2-3 per cent after the imposition of anti-dumping duty on picture tubes. LG has also increased its colour television prices by 2-3 per cent. “We are trying hard to keep the margin but some part of the increase in the input cost have to be pass on to the consumers worst hit would be the entry level segment in colour television segments,” LG Electronics Vice-President sales V Ramachandran said.

Colour television prices starts from about Rs 6,000 for a 14 inch set and can touch up to Rs 20,000 for a flat screen 29 inch set. Likewise, Chinese consumer electronics major Haier has also hiked prices of its television sets. To make it worse for the consumers, the companies operating in the segment will not be able to bank on discounts this festive season.
