Weekly Cookie Sales Could Determine Winner of Presidential Election

MCLEAN, Va., Sep 17, 2008  Retail bakeries through the Retail Bakers of America (RBA) are participating in a national cookie poll campaign to increase community involvement in the United States presidential election.

Retail bakeries across the country are designing cookies to represent both political parties. Cookies in colors of red and blue with images of the presidential candidates, their names and political party mascots are being offered to customers.

Participating bakeries will submit the total number of election cookies sold to the RBA offices for tabulation. Results of the nationwide poll will be announced weekly on the election cookie poll Website at http://www.rbanet.com/2008cookiepoll.htm.

“RBA members started the cookie poll for the 2004 election,” says RBA President, Lynn Schurman, co-owner of Cold Spring Bakery, Cold Spring, Minn. “Cookie sales were very accurate in predicting the winner.”

Randall McArthur, President of McArthur’s Pastry Cake Bakery, St. Louis, Mo. states that the cookie poll is “a fun way to promote the election and get the community involved.”

The Retail Bakers of America (RBA) is a 501(c)6 not-for-profit trade association located in McLean, VA whose membership consists of retail bakeries, industry suppliers, educators, students, culinary colleges and other industry partners, is committed to the success of the retail baking industry.
