Consumerfed to launch 175 outlets in 3 yrs

Kerala State Cooperative Consumers Federation (Consumerfed) plans to set up about 175 outlets , including 100 in villages, with an investment of Rs 175 crore in the next three years. The cooperative would provide quality products at lesser price at these outlets, which will draw consumers to the Triveni outlets, Counsumerfed Managing Director Riji G Nair said. In the villages, Little Triveni super stores would come up within 800-1000 square feet area. These stores would be fully equipped with about 2,000-2,500 items, including essential products, consumer durables and cosmetics, Nair said. The Centre has sanctioned Rs six crore assistance for the same.

Triveni Mega Marts, totalling 25, would be set up in a 2,000-5,000 square feet area, he said. The biggest is coming up at Punalur in Kollam in a 5,000 square feet in two months time, he said. Mega marts will have bakeries, book stalls and gaming areas, he said. Besides these, Consumerfed will also set up 25 independent e-triveni business centres in Kerala with all facilities like internet cafe, ISD, STD and fax. Consumerfed is targetting a sales turnover of Rs 700 crore this year, against last year’s Rs 572 crore.

Earlier, talking to reporters, Consumerfed Chairman A K Narayanan said that coffee houses and the noon meal scheme of the federation was a big success and there were plans to open coffee houses at Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam. About 4000 Onam markets are operating in the state, he said.
