After Nano, Mamata targets retail firms

Posted by retailigence on September 5, 2008

Mamata’s agitation has moved beyond the Nano plant. Now, organised retailers operating in the state are in her line of fire. Companies like Pantaloon Retail, Reliance Fresh, Spencers and Tatas Westside that currently operate in WB are being targeted.

Meanwhile, after a week of carrying on the dharna at the Tata Nano factory in Singur, Mamata Banerjie said on Monday she is open to talks. However, her dharna at Singur will continue and now for the third day the Nano factory has remained shut, with no workers turning up. In fact, Tata Motors released an official statement: Tata Motors spokesperson said, “The conditions in Singur are still not conducive for resuming work today. We continue to assess the situation closely.”

Meanwhile, on the Nano crisis, West Bengal Chief Minister has said that negotiations are key in solving the crisis. “The government bears the moral responsibility of the poor. I have never encountered anybody who is so stubborn and not ready to negotiate and we are ready to negotiate,” he said.
